COTTAGE CHARM

Pelham, NY

The Backstory

The family moved from Hoboken, NJ to Pelham, NY – swapping city life for a charming, Cotswold cottage-inspired home that evokes images of rolling hills and winding country lanes. He is from the Northeast; she grew up in the Midwest with an appreciation for architecture. They came to us with the expectation of creating a space for themselves and their three girls that felt both smart and joyful – and gave us carte blanche to indulge our passion for color and pattern.

The Design Brief

Enhance the home’s inherent character with an airy, color-splashed interior, infused with the homeowner’s sunny personality and love of flowers.

The Inspiration

Good Day Sunshine. The client’s beloved china pattern was the inspiration for our happy palette: pink, orange, and chartreuse folded into a foundation of greens, blues, and yellows. Limewashed walls catch the light and add depth in the foyer and timber-beamed formal living room (we used the same treatment in office/den in a fresh clay color.) Floral fun includes a new terra cotta-tiled backsplash with hand painted yellow posies, and bold blooms on the wallpaper in the primary bedroom and a daughter’s room. The charming tropical wall covering in the well-used dining room is paired with a pink and white striped ceiling and a bespoke pistachio-hued china cabinet. Taking a more subdued approach in the primary bedroom, we made the fireplace usable and went with pale blues and yellows for a cozy B&B vibe.
