Cottage Charm

The family relocated from Hoboken, NJ to Pelham, NY, trading city living for a charming, Cotswold cottage–inspired home that conjures images of rolling hills and winding country lanes. He’s a Northeast native; she grew up in the Midwest with a deep appreciation for architecture and detail.

Together, they envisioned a home for themselves and their three daughters that felt intelligent, joyful, and deeply personal. And they gave us carte blanche to lean fully into our love of color, pattern, and layered interiors.

Celebrate and enhance the home’s inherent character with an airy, color-forward interior infused with the homeowner’s sunny disposition, love of flowers, and a sense of playful sophistication.

The jumping-off point for the home’s vibrant palette was the client’s beloved china pattern, which inspired a cheerful mix of pink, orange, and chartreuse layered over a grounding base of greens, blues, and yellows. Limewashed walls in the foyer and timber-beamed formal living room catch the light beautifully, adding softness and dimension. We carried the same textured wall treatment into the office/den, reinterpreted in a fresh clay hue.

Floral moments appear throughout the home, from a terracotta-tiled kitchen backsplash adorned with hand-painted yellow posies to bold, blooming wallpaper in the primary bedroom and one of the daughters’ rooms. In the well-loved dining room, a whimsical tropical mural is paired with a pink-and-white striped ceiling and a custom pistachio-hued china cabinet - both a functional storage piece and a colorful focal point.

For the primary bedroom, we took a more restrained approach, restoring the fireplace to working order and layering pale blues and soft yellows to create a cozy Bed and Breakfast–inspired retreat. The result is a family home that feels lighthearted yet thoughtful, richly layered yet entirely livable - a true reflection of the people who call it home.
