A Bold Escape

Point Pleasant, NJ

He works in finance, she’s a nutritionist, and together they live in Hoboken, NJ with their three children. When the family decided to renovate their Point Pleasant, NJ beach house, post–Hurricane Sandy building requirements ultimately dictated a full teardown and new build.

The resulting home’s clean, modern architecture provided the ideal canvas for expressing the couple’s love of travel, entertaining, and design—with a deliberate departure from traditional coastal clichés. This is a Jersey Shore beach house with a distinctly non-nautical point of view.

The Backstory

Design a dynamic, elevated interior - decidedly not nautical - that instantly transports family and guests to an exotic destination the moment they step inside.

The Interior Design Brief

Inspired by the couple’s travels to Mexico, we layered earthy textures, graphic patterns, and warm, saturated colors in a way that feels sophisticated, restrained, and entirely appropriate for a modern beach house. The goal was escapism - approaching the home with a hospitality mindset and introducing unexpected statement moments that deliver a true “wow factor.”

Custom-painted rattan light fixtures hover above bold striped lounge chairs, setting the tone upon entry. A wall-mounted fireplace framed in fluted marble tile adds architectural drama, while in the kitchen, a graphic backsplash creates a lively backdrop for cooking and gathering. Ceramic pendant lights with softened edges subtly reference broken clam shells - a quiet nod to beach life without leaning literal. Opposite, a channel-tufted banquette, round sconces, and a vintage “Goose Island” sign provide visual balance and a touch of playfulness.

Salmon-hued terrazzo floors anchor the first-floor guest suite and powder room, where feathery, three-dimensional tile reinterprets traditional wainscoting. Upstairs, a bunk room makes the most of every inch, while a Jack-and-Jill bath is clad in striking primitive-patterned tile. In the primary suite, a luxe mix of textures and a predominantly monochromatic palette - punctuated with coral and warm brown accents—creates a serene retreat designed for unwinding after a day at the shore.
