COUTURE COLONIAL

Tenafly, NJ

The Backstory

This couple and their two teens had lived in their Tenafly, NJ, home for years. When they came to us (after seeing our lawn sign on a neighbor’s property), she knew exactly what she wanted: spectacular interiors that would wow their guests and reflect her chic personal style.

The Design Brief

Level up the living spaces with a stunning blend of traditional elegance, clean lines, and eye-catching embellishments.

The Inspiration

Dressed to Impress. The makeover began with mirrored lacquer on the front door and grid-patterned paneling on the grand foyer’s curved walls. The details make the difference in the formal dining room, where we paired the traditional table and crystal chandelier with trimmed, tasseled draperies and hand-painted de Gournay wallpaper in tones of lilac, pale blue, and Dior gray. The spacious living room – where this musical family gathers around the piano – is styled in muted, elegant shades. And reupholstered and repositioned furnishings and embellished drapery gave the family room a lift. We put a chic spin on her wood-wrapped office with chocolate wall-to-wall carpet and a modern vintage light fixture, and reinvented the powder room with new floor titles, patterned wall paper and millwork, and a jewel-like marble vanity. In the daughter’s room, the Upper East Side meets grunge rock with a timeless mix of pattern and texture. We added a built-in desk and storage with ample space to showcase posters of her favorite bands. And made the most of the small ensuite bath with a pocket door, hung vanity, fun mosaic tilework, and edgy green wallpaper.
